Born on August 13, 1963 at Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu, Sridevi started her film-career as a child artiste in Tamil movie Kandhan Karunai (1967) and later as an adult in a number of Tamil and Malayalam movies. is Sridevi’s birth place.
The dusky Tamilian beauty did rule over the hearts of audience of three different film industries of India—Hindi, Tamil and Malayali—a feat no one else could achieve.
In 1975 Sridevi appeared in Hindi movie Julie as a child artiste. As an adult, Sridevi’s first Hindi film was Solva Saawan, released in 1978. This movie failed at the box office; however, her second Hindi movie, Himmatwala, was a major success.
Throughout the 1980s, she starred in a number of Bollywood hit movies, such as Judaai, Lamhe, Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, Nagina, Mr India, Chandni, and Chaalbaaz, for which she won her first Filmfare Award. Yash Chopra directed Lamhe (1992) won her her second Filmfare Best Actress Award and the International Best Actress Award.
Sridevi married film producer Boney Kapoor on June 2, 1996. The couple has two daughters, Jhanvi and Khushi. After the superhit Judaai (1997), Sridevi left the industry in order to raise her daughters.
Before Bollywood, Sridevi remained the unchallenged number one Tamilian actress for over a decade, since her first appearance in K. Balachander's Moondru Mudichu, where she starred opposite both Kamal Haasan and Rajnikanth. Sridevi’s acted withy Rajnikanth in numerous movies thereafter, including Dharmayuddham, Priya, Pokkiri Raja, Tucker Raja, Adutha Varisu, Nan Adimai Illai, etc.
With Kamal Haasan, she acted in movies such as, Guru, Sankarlal,Sigappu Rojakkal,Thaayillamal Naanillai, Meendum Kokila, Vaazhve Maayam, Varumaiyin Niram Sigappu, Neela Malargal, Moondram Pirai, 16 Vayathinile etc. With N. T. Rama Rao, she acted in movies such as Konda Veeti Simham, Vetagadu, Sardar Paparayudu, Bobbili Puli etc.
