Director: Anand L. Rai

Rating: ***1/2

The film is a brilliant masterpiece by Anand L. Rai. We must say the sequel is a step ahead of the prequel of the film. The impressive screenplay and the quirky dialogues take this film to a whole new level. Also the detailing of the film from the sets to the dialect, everything has been done with great efficiency.

The film is a beauty and Rai has very smartly and tastefully brought the story to life. However, other than Kangna Ranuat, Deepak Dobriyal aka Pappi has done an exceptional job. The juicy and realistic performance Dobriyal is commendable.

Four year after marriage Tanuja Trivedi aka Tanu (Kangna Ranaut) and Manu Sharma (R. Madhavan) are settled in London and their marriage has hit the rugs. The qualities that once they both adored about each other, had now started irritating them. As the couple visits a counselor to resolve their issues, the situation gets worse and they part ways.

Tanu however, tries to relive her care free life and decides to go back to Kanpur. Tanu who has now a little added videsi spunk revives her past, on the other hand Manu is all broken and is in dismay. He could not believe, what was happening in his life. But one thing was for sure that the couple could not be together for sure.

Manu however, is coping up with his marriage falling apart, a time come when he falls for Tanu`s lookalike, who is an athlete from Delhi University, Kusum Sangwan aka Datto. Kusum is a feisty but innocent version of Tanu with true Haryanvi blood. Datto is a young girl who is independent and is new to the world of love. Manu is unable to keep is mind in sync and keeps falling for Datto. And their love story starts taking shape.

Apparently, Tanu on the other hand is getting inclined towards Raj Awasthi (Jimmy Shergill), until Chintu (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) a lawyer who lives in Tanu`s house as a tenant creates a situation where everything goes upside down and a complicated situation arises!

Now the question is Would Manu and Datto`s lovey story every flourish? Would Tanu land up being with Raj? Or would Tanu and Manu realize their love for each other and reunite?? As a matter of fact Tanu and Manu still love each other. Manu fell in love with a girl who looks like Tanu.

The most interesting segment of the film is that you are well aware of the characters in the film. The first scene where Tanu and Manu are getting married is a quick reminder of the prequel and it very efficiently helps Rai to take his story further.

Manu`s love story with Datto is not an extra marital affair, it doesn`t seem that Manu is cheating or betraying his wife, instead it depicts his love for Tanu and searching for her in other girls. The first half of the film is interesting and keeps the audience connected, however the second half of the film is a little slow and does distract you a little but it soon catches pace and reconnects.

Also, the film has embodied a few sensitive topics beautifully like gender equality, test tube babies acceptance and respecting women. Rai has very effectively and sensibly incorporated these issues in the film without making a big deal about it or making it the focus point.

Talking about the acting Kangna Ranaut, the queen of Bollywood rules again. Be it care free and arrogant Tanu or a feisty independent Kusum, Kangna has done a marvellous job. From an elegant NRI to the haryanvi dilect, Kangna has yet again proven that she is truly the queen of Bollywood.

R Madhavan being a talented actor, he has played Manu with ease, then be it a frustrated husband or a lover boy Madhvan has done justice to Manu`s character. Deepak Dobriyal who plays Pappi in the film does deserve applaud for his incredible performance and also his comic timing is great. Rest the supporting cast like Jimmy Shergill, Swara Bhaskar and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub have also added their flavour to the film.

This film has achieved something which most of the sequels lack in, this film is considered a better than the prequel which is an achievement in itself. Lastly, the music of the film is peppy and spunky, composers Tanishk & Vayu bakhoobhi have tried to revive the old Punjabi folk wedding songs, in which they have succeeded. The fun lyrics and the techno tadhka has definitely impressed the listeners.

Alas, a special mention for the dialogues, Himanshu Sharma has not only written the film but he is the mastermind behind the crazy oneliners and screenplay. Without Himanshu`s absolutely phenomenal writing this film would have not been a treat to watch. Our verdict 3.5 stars.
