It's the lack of `opportunity to do something path-breaking' that had been keeping popular Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor out of the Indian football scene till the Indian Super League happened. In an interview to Times of India, the Mumbai City FC co-owner opened up on various topics. Excerpts:

What went wrong with your team last season?
I think a lot of things did go wrong last year. It was the first season and looking back, we learnt a lot.Nobody knew what to expect from the league and we made several mistakes. The hiring of the coach at a late stage was definitely one of them. Injuries we faced ISL through the season didn't help us either. The fact that our marquee players were either too old or injured for more than half our matches made things difficult.

Do you feel the fact that ISL has no relegation makes it less competitive?
It's a brand new league and globally, across all sports, every league needs time to develop and improve. This holds even more true for a market like India, which is unique in more ways than one. I feel that the format of the ISL is best suited for our current market conditions. I am sure as the seasons progress, we will become a more evolved league and will eventually have similar rules and regulations when compared to other leagues worldwide.

How do you plan to make amends this season?
For starters, we have identified our marquee player and an an announcement will be made very shortly . We will also be announcing our manager before the end of the month. We are out in the market for our international players and have some great options to present to the fans. Our core technical team remains the same which means we have a degree of continuity and also the opportunity to not repeat the mistakes we made last year. For us, the only way is upwards.
