Director Subash Kapoor says his upcoming Arshad Warsi-Amit Sadh starrer comedy "Guddu Rangeela" is a tribute to the memorable on-screen bromances like Sholay's Jai-Veeru, Karan-Arjun and Ram-Lakhan.

The upcoming film, set in the backdrop of khap panchayat, tells the tale of two miscreants, played by Arshad and Amit.

While Subhash has worked with Arshad in the hit comedy "Jolly LLB", he has teamed up with the "Koi Po Che!" actor for the first time.

"When the trailer came out everyone started complimenting the jodi of Arshad and Amit. There is closeness to the legendary jodi of Jai-Veeru, Karan-Arjun like Arshad is mature while Amit is jovial.

"'Guddu Rangeela' is my tribute to jodis like Jai-Veeru, Ram-Lakhan, Karan-Arjun etc. They are two loveable, funny and quirky underdogs. They are simple and vulnerable, but very intense and gutsy when required," Subhash told PTI.

From "Phas Gaye Re Obama" to "Jolly LLB", characters in Subhash's films are always crucial to the story and the director said this is why casting is of prominence importance to him.

"I always go by the demand of a script. I tell story from the real world and then cast actors accordingly. For the kind of films I make, casting is crucial," Subhash added.

"Arshad is apt for this film. After 'Jolly LLB' I do share a great bond with him and that is an added advantage as he understands my style of working. We both have faith in each other. I met Amit four-five years back even before 'Kai Po Che' released. For this film I felt Amit suits in the role," he said.

The filmmaker seems to have found comfort in satirical dramas.

"I love to do films on real world. Like "Guddu Rangeela" is on honour killing.. the issue is complex but we put it out in humorous, satirical way."

"There are various issues that we can highlight through cinema. This style of filmmaking is challenging.

Towards the end of the film, we want to make the point clear to them (audience) but in a satirical way," he added. The director said he would now want to direct a film based on politics.

"I want to do a political film. It will happen after 'Jolly LLB 2'. The film will be set up in a political world, I want to explore this space as it interests me... excites me," he said.

"We will show nepotism, corruption, Indian political family... but I don't know what exactly we will be able to show," Subhash said.

Also starring Ronit Roy and Aditi Rao Hyadri, "Guddu Rangeela" is set to hit theatres on July 3.
