Soha Ali Khan says she wants to portray powerful, layered characters Bengali films are known for.

Soha has worked in Bengali films like "Iti Srikanto" and "Antarmahal".

"I love my mother's (Sharmila Tagore's) films like Devi and I look like mom. People say I have a Bengali face. I want to do the kind of roles women get in Bengali films. Powerful, layered and thought driven with lots of motivation," she told PTI.

Soha, who was the show stopper of a premier national fashion show in the city last week, said she is fascinated by Satyajit Ray's "Apur Sansar" besides "Devi" and regretted that she never got a chance to work with the maestro. "I had worked with Rituparno Ghosh in Antarmahal. I missnot working with him any more. I also want to work with Aparna Sen and Goutam Ghosh one day," the 'Rang de Basanti' star said.

"I also like the way Tony (Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury) handles his subject," she said.

Soha was enthusiastic about Bollywood films and named "Titli", "Masaan", "Talwar".

"I immensely loved the Marathi-English 'Court' and happy it is going to Oscars. I hope it makes the cut," she said.

Asked about the moderate response to "Guddu Ki Gun", starring her husband Kunal Kemmu, she said many people enjoyed the movie.

Soha, who wore a heavily embroidered lehenga in golden and green colors as show-stopper of J J Valaya at Blender's Pridefashion show, said Anamika Khanna and Jaya Mitra, now working in Delhi, were her favourite fashion designers from Kolkata, besides Sabyasachi Mukherjee who had designed her wedding wear.

"Style is an important part of presenting oneself. My one advice for every working professional girl of today is be appropriately dressed as your line of work demands - Indian or western. My message as show stopper," she said to a question.

Soha said in her private life she loves to wear saris and jewellery. "I have worn sarees at least hundreds of times but with the help from my mom or someone around since I can't manage pleats on my own."

Effusive about Kolkata, her mother's city, she said "It is amazing how I am greeted by people here."
