Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt's bail was Tuesday extended by two days till Thursday by the special Terrorist
and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court.
On Thursday, special judge P.D. Kode will hear arguments on extension of his bail and the quantum of
sentence. Dutt was Nov 28 found guilty of illegal possession of weapons in the 1993 Mumbai serial
bombings that killed 257 people.
According to his lawyer Satish Mansingde, senior counsel V.R. Manohar would argue the case.
Mansingde asked the court to take into consideration the provisions of the Probation of the Offenders Act
on grounds of good conduct and behaviour.
The act empowers a court to release certain offenders on probation for a certain period of time before the
quantum of sentence has been passed.
He also said there had been no adverse reports against Dutt in the past 13 years since he had been on trial
- either from the jail or outside in society.
Special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam opposed the extension of bail but agreed to the interim
relief.
The actor, who has been absolved of the more serious charges of conspiracy and helping the terrorists, was
present in court as the judge gave him a reprieve.
Dressed in a striped blue shirt and his trademark faded jeans, a tense Dutt, sporting a tilak on his forehead,
sat at the back of the courtroom, only occasionally spoke to others. His brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav
waited outside.
