"You want a war, you've got one"
After locking horns for the first time in Fast and Furious 7, it is about time Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham got their movie where they come unhinged in the games of one-manship, and a not-so-subtle round of insults. The team behind the never-ending The Fast and The Furious franchise graciously fulfills your wish with a spin-off entirely dedicated to the characters of Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) and Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson).
The movie opens with a seemingly routine operation headed by MI-6 under the leadership of Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby) to retrieve a deadly virus "Snowflake" from the hands of megalomaniac organization named Eteon. However, all goes sideways with the arrival of Idris Alba's villainous Brixton Lure (self-proclaimed black Superman) who gets rid of everyone, all but Hattie who is forced to go rogue with the virus; bringing in the difficult duo of Hobbs and Shaw to trace her along with the virus.
A Hobbs and Shaw movie is everything you've come to expect from its parent franchise- the grinding of metal, The Rock and Statham indulging in filthy banter and cocksmanship, beautiful women, exotic locations, ferocious fight scenes, physics-defying probabilities, collateral damage, and more collateral damage! Doesn't do much in elevating the mark for action movies, but the combined charisma of The Rock and Statham makes this an endless delight. Vanessa Kirby continues to impress in her turn as an action star. The screenplay is average is best. Director David Leitch knows how to direct a damn good action scene, but the subtleties of storytelling seem lost on him.
If you enjoy no brainer entertainers, look no further! 'Hobbs and Shaw' is one of the most entertaining of summer Box- Office this year!
