Director: Jagdeep Sidhu
Rating: **1/2
Jagdeep Sidhu who earlier delivered a film as Qismat returns with another one of his projects with actress Sargun Mehta who was last seen in 'Chandigarh Amritsar Chandigarh'.
In Surkhi Bindi Sargun teams up for the first time with actor/singer - Gurnam Bhullar for the much-awaited family Surkhi Bindi.
Randeep (Sargun Mehta) from her childhood has only one dream that one day she will marry a rich prince charming and fly abroad with him like a fairytale. But, that dream never gets fulfilled as upon growing up she gets married to Sukhwinder aka Sukha (Gurnam Bhullar), a middle-class factory worker.
Randeep is not happy and expresses about her dream to start her own beauty parlour one day to Sukha who then decides to help her beloved wife in fulling her dream. How Sukha goes against everything to help his beloved wife forms the rest of the story.
Surkhi Bindi is not a typical Punjabi love story. Director Jagdeep Sidhu and writer Rupinder Inderjit have tried their best to present something different with this one though the writing could have been tighter so that the screenplay wouldn't feel dragged as it does many times.
Randeep and Sukha are not the typical romantic couple just having romance all the time, these two also have a lot more in their life, family disputes, bitterness, and sometimes each other's trust.
The film is not the average Punjabi family entertainer if you are looking for one, it is only for those who are looking for something new and something different. This one is not what the usual Punjabi movie lover might like.
Surkhi Bindi as a story focuses on Randeep's dreams and aspirations in life and what happens to them after she gets married while Sukha tries to keep things interesting on his own.
The first half is a slow one where the film tries to show Randeep and Sukha trying to lay the ground for their relationship which is an attempt to make the audience relate to their situation, something at which the film doesn't quite succeed well.
The film picks up in the second half and a lot of stars to take place in the lead pair's lives on both personal and professional fronts.
Their chemistry paired with the drama manages to keep you interested in what's happening on screen and the climax is also satisfactory.
The film is all about Sargun Mehta. She has carried the film on her shoulders. As Randeep Sargun goes through every emotion known to man all at once and she does look good doing that.
Gurnam Bhullar in is his second Punjabi film after 'Guddiyan Patole' as a lead also looks good as the helping and caring husband of Sargun. His expressions are nice and relatable. Director Jagdeep Sidhu who is one of the best directors of the Punjabi film industry proves his mettle in the emotional drama department once again after Qismat.
Overall Surkhi Bindi can be watched once for Sargun Mehta and Gurnam Bhullar's performances and for the emotions director has tried to put up on the screen.
