Legendary Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj passes away!

With a musical career span of more than 80 years, legendary Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj bid adieu to the world. On August 7th, the late vocalist died at 5:15 a.m (EST) due to a cardiac arrest at his home in New Jersey as amid the Coronavirus pandemic, he was residing in the USA.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, mourned P.T Jasraj's death and tweeted, "The unfortunate demise of Pandit Jasraj Ji leaves a deep void in the Indian cultural sphere. Not only were his renditions outstanding, he also made a mark as an exceptional mentor to several other vocalists. Condolences to his family and admirers worldwide. Om Shanti." He was an Indian classical vocalist, belonging to the Mewati Gharana (musical apprenticeship lineage). His several classical and semi-classical vocals became famous albums and were used in film soundtracks. Jasraj mainly taught music in India, Canada, and the US, and some of his students became notable musicians such as violinist Kala Ramnath.
