Rajan Shahi is a happy man. The ace producer is basking in the glory of the success of his show "Anupamaa", which is co-produced by him and his mom Deepa Shahi under their banner Shahi Productions Pvt Ltd. The show is about a homemaker who was never acknowledged for the efforts that she has put in for her family, and how later she embarks on a journey of self-discovery. He revealed that before the show went on-air, there were rumours that it will not do well because of the storyline.

Summing up the year 2020 for him, he said, "This year started off with the lockdown and we were all waiting and watching and clueless about what's going to happen next. The entire phase continued with repeat telecasts as shooting was stopped."

"Just two days before the lockdown we had to postpone the launch of our new show 'Anupamaa'. So the entire period continued where we occupied ourselves with discussing that when we resume shoot what kind of storyline we would start off with," he added.

When the shootings resumed in July, "Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai", produced under Director's Kut Productions, opened with a new track, and "Anupamaa" too went on-air. "Once we started shooting, 'Anupamaa' and 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' opened with very promising numbers and for me the highlight was 'Anupamaa' which was the story of a housewife and many people speculated that it will not do well, but it became a trendsetter show of 2020."

He accepted that they were not sure of the audience's new taste because of the lockdown, and said, "All this while we were just trying to understand the taste and mood of the audience, and the results were that 'Anupamaa' got a thumbs up from the audience."

Sharing how he and his team took care of the safety measures, Rajan said, "A lot of precautions were taken because we realised that it does not just mean taking care of yourself, but when you take care of yourself and follow the rules and regulations it becomes the responsibility of the others actors and unit members to take of their safety. And like they say 'the show must go on', so the show went on but with a lot of precautions."
