Vishwa Banga Sammelan (World Bengal Meet) is on in New Jersey and Maushumi Chatterjee is excited and nervous. She would be giving her first stage performance ever during this festival in a Bengali play called Sukh Shaari, based on the novel Dampati She will play the central character.

The actress decided to act in the play because she liked the role. Maushumi is in that stage iof life when she thinks she can experiment.

Maushumi doesn't think age matters and can always learn at any stage of life. Stage is all together a different ball game because you have to reach out to the audience without any re-takes and breaks between scenes.

Presently Maushumi was shooting in Kolkata for Aparna Sen's English film, The Japanese Wife.

"Reena (Aparna's pet name) was very supportive and allowed me to rehearse for the play. I enjoyed the workshop and reading the dialogues," she says.

The actress will share the stage with Madhabi Mukherjee, who has been Satyajit Ray's muse for many years.

She will travel across the USA with the play and will be back by July-end.

Currently, she is working hard to lose the extra kilos she had to gain for Aparna's film. "I want to look fit. At my age gaining weight is easy but losing it is very difficult," she says.

Maushumi is also looking forward to Basu Chatterji's upcoming film, Kuch Khatti Kuch Meeti.
