The critically acclaimed folk horror film Tumbbad, starring Sohum Shah, is making a return to theaters on September 13, 2024. Originally released in 2018, Tumbbad has since garnered a cult following for its unique storytelling and eerie atmosphere.

Sohum Shah, alongside the film's creators, shared the news on Instagram, revealing a new poster that encapsulates the film's haunting ambiance. The poster features Sohum's character, Vinayak Rao, navigating the dark, foreboding night with a lantern, accompanied by his young son. Sohum captioned the post: "Doston, we are arriving!! It's time for the Tumbbad experience in cinemas again on 13th September 2024!"

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve, with Anand Gandhi as the creative director and Adesh Prasad as co-director, Tumbbad tells the gripping tale of Vinayak Rao's quest for a hidden 20th-century treasure in the village of Tumbbad, Maharashtra. The film explores themes of greed and obsession as Vinayak's search leads him to confront the malevolent entity, Hastar, who guards the mythical treasure.

The screenplay, crafted by Mitesh Shah, Adesh Prasad, Rahi Anil Barve, and Anand Gandhi, has been praised for its originality and depth. Tumbbad was produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah. The film's cast also includes Jyoti Malshe and Anita Date-Kelkar, whose performances contributed to the film's critical success.

Tumbbad made history as the first Indian film to premiere in the Critics' Week section at the 75th Venice International Film Festival. It was also showcased at several prestigious international festivals, including the Fantastic Fest, Sitges Film Festival, Screamfest Horror Film Festival, El Gouna Film Festival, the 23rd International Film Festival of Kerala, Morbido Film Fest, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, and Nitte International Film Festival.

Sohum Shah, who made his on-screen debut in 2009 with Baabarr, where he played an antagonist, has since appeared in notable films like the National Award-winning Ship of Theseus, Talvar, and Simran. His performance in Tumbbad has been widely lauded, further solidifying his status as a versatile actor in Indian cinema.
