Harilal, Gandhi's son in ‘Gandhi My Father', is said to be a role of a lifetime and Akshaye Khanna is very lucky to get it considering who was vying for the role alongside him. Yes, it was none other than Aamir Khan.

Though those who have managed to catch Akshaye in the film are raving about his stellar performance, little do the know that if things would have been Aamir's way, he would have been producing, directing and even acting in the film..

Sources say veteran stage director Feroz Khan planned to make ‘Gandhi, My Father' based on Harilal's life, Aamir was the first to jump at the opportunity.

He is said to have approached Khan with the offer of producing and directing the movie and also playing the lead role. However, Aamir was unaware that Yashraj Films had already approached

Aamir loved the fact that the script has a classic drama where both the parties (Gandhi and Harilal) are right in their own way. If Gandhi is seen as an idealist, Harilal too has a strong emotional point in his craving for love and affection of his father which he didn't get.

Presently the Yashraj Films' deal didn't work out, Anil Kapoor decided to produce the film with Feroz, himself, directing it. Aamir it seems though is still ruing his loss. He still regrets not being able to play the role."
