Entertainers are changing roles often and the latest to follow this trend is Babul Supriyo. The singer has turned leading man with the Bengali film 'Chander Bari'

The film is directed by legendary Bengali filmmaker Tarun Majumdar who has also launched the likes of Moushumi Chatterjee. Babul is playing leading man opposite Rituparna Sengupta and the film also has seasoned Bengali actors like Soumitro Chatterjee and Ranjit Mullick

So what inspired Babul to take up this offer? "Tarun Majumdar is a highly respected director from Bengal. I was recording a song for him when he suddenly came up with this idea of casting me.

It was a kind of an opportunity which unfolded in front me. I had a chance to work with seasoned artistes like Soumitra Chatterjee and Ranjit Mullick and more so Tarun Mazumdar. There was no absolutely no reason to say no," he says.

The film has been shot in Calcutta and is now releasing on the 23 RD of November.

Babul has lost oodles of weight and has undergone a fab makeover. He informs, "Actually I just got a little fit. During ' Khoya Khoya chand', Ramesh Taurani told me that he can't take me in a video as it would spoil the look of it!

Though I laughed at it and took it more as a joke, but then later I realized that this whole thing was kind of limiting me. The whole concept of non filmi music is about featuring the singer. Even in the West it happens, in pop music and everything else.

Hence I took things seriously and just got somewhat fit. I didn't want to get a six pack or something. I just wanted to look a little better."

His heroine Rituparna has high words of praise for Babul. "He has done a great job. The character has come out very well. It was not like working with a newcomer."

So did acting in his music videos help Babul during the course of the film? "There is not much acting to do in music videos. ' Sochta hoon' was an amazing video but with the hero romancing the heroine, I had nothing to do. I actually felt left out. In the movie I have just sung one song which has been picturized on me," reveals Babul.

He will be doing more films in the near future. He says, "I am doing a few Hindi films now, though I can't spell out the names right away. I am not hoping to have a huge launch pad here like what Himesh (Reshammiya) had. The experiences of singer turned actors have not exactly been sweet.

There are so many movies being made these days. There are multiplex movies and films like ' Rang De Basanti', 'Bheja Fry', 'Dil Chahta hai' etc which have interested me. There is a lot to do." -Sneha Hazarika
