Popular TV actor Rajeev Khandelwal, who makes his silver screen debut with `Aamir' that releases next month, on Wednesday said television has become very regressive and there was no growth for artistes.

Talking to reporters here, Khandelwal said he could not experience growth on the small screen.

On why he quit both roles which made him well-known - Sujal (Kahi to Hoga) and Capt Rajveer (Left Right Left), he said in both the serials, the stories were going nowhere and his role had no meaning left.

He said he now wants to concentrate on films. "I hope people like my work in `Aamir'."

About the film, Khandelwal said he plays the protagonist, who on returning to Mumbai from London, finds himself in a situation where he is left with no option but to follow the person who is commanding him to do something he would never want to do.

"The story dwells on how Aamir emerges out of it as a winner. It also tells us how some situations can make an ordinary man to come forward as a hero."

He said he had got offers for romantic films but did not opt for any. "I knew everyone will expect me to make my debut in a romantic film because it would have been easy for me, but I wanted to do something that was unexpected."

The film is directed by debutante Rajkumar Gupta, who has assisted Anurag Kashyap in films like `Black Friday' and `No Smoking'.

"He is a good director. For a newcomer, the passion to make a project successful is more. I could not have had a better film than Aamir to launch myself in Bollywood," Khandelwal said.
