The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court today deferred the hearing on the Shirdi land deal case of Bollywood star Rani Mukherjee, till June 17.

As reported earlier, Rani purchased a piece of land in Nimgaon Korhale village near Shirdi on December 21 last year.

The Sub-divisional Officer of Srirampur issued a notice to the actress asking her to pay a penalty of Rs 66 lakh by April 15, otherwise, the land would be taken in Government custody.

The notice also stated that the plot, purchased by Rani, was on a ceiling land and that she should have sought permission of the district collector before buying it. But Rani failed to do so.

Rani's father and power of attorny, Ram Mukherjee, had filed a petition in the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court on April 4, challenging notice of the sub-divisional officer.

In the petition, the actress urged the court to cancel the notice.

On April 9, Justice N H Patil of the Aurangabad bench issued directives to maintain the status quo in the Shirdi land deal case.

The court had also directed to serve a notice before admission to the Maharashtra government to present its side on the case before posting the next hearing today.

However, the hearing was deferred till June 17, as the notices to some of the respondents were not served on.

Adv Shashikumar Chaudhry and Adv Yuvraj Chaudhry are representing the actress.
