It was only natural for Sanjay Dutt to join politics, says actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Hema Malini.

"Sanjay's father (Sunil Dutt) had been in politics for so many years and his sister (Priya) is also a politician. So it's very natural for him to get into politics. I'm sure he will do a great job, " the veteran actress told reporters here at the launch Kent's RO Systems Grand Plus launch.

"It is a free country and anyone can fight elections, " she added.

Sanjay, who is the Samajwadi Party candidate from Lucknow, had Wednesday expressed the hope that Hema Malini would not contest against him.

The actress said in response: "I'm not even sure whether I will contest elections or not. He has lot of respect for me and I also really like him. We are good colleagues."

She supports the entry of celebrities into politics.

"They can bring some fresh changes to the country. Like the new generation is bringing fresh ideas to Bollywood, they can bring some fresh ideas to politics as well."
