It is the gift of vision that is a boon for us. After playing a blind girl in Black, Rani Mukherjee spread awareness of the need of eye donation on Sept 11, 10.30 am.

The occasion was the culmination of the Eye Donation Fortnight organized by The Rotary Club of Bombay Seacoast jointly with Lotus Eye Hospital. The Eye Donation Awareness Campaign was launched with a walk in Juhu area, near Lotus Eye Hospital, which seeks to spread knowledge and awareness of the need for Eye Donation with the help of banners and widespread distribution of leaflets and donor pledge cards.

Said Dr. Aban Movdawalla and Dr. Samir Bhargava, President, Rotary Club of Bombay Seacoast, "Rani's consummate portrayal of a blind girl in Black, a role which she researched and essayed to perfection won her millions of hearts and many awards. She was the perfect person to promote the cause of eye donation."

Added Rani, "There are almost three million corneal blind persons in India and only less than 10, 000 corneal transplants are taking place each year in India. Two eyes donated can light up the lives of two or even four blind people. It is a wonderful feeling to be part of the cause."

Along with Rani Mukherjee, her father Mr. Ram Mukherjee too pledged his eyes.
