Akshay Kumar, who was recently awarded a Katana for his martial arts abilities, has reportedly written a petition to MS Gill, the sports minister for making karate a compulsory subject for schoolchildren in India.

Akshay believes that teaching any form of martial art at an early age instills self-confidence in children. His son, Aarav learns karate outside school.

Akshay feels the schools in India should take a leaf out of the book of schools in Japan, China, and Korea where martial arts are taught on a large scale. He thinks it helps children to lead a disciplined life as well as be able to defend themselves.
