James Cameron's epic action adventure is rocking at the box office with audiences across the country rushing to the theatres to witness the magic of ‘Avatar'.

The battle of good v/s evil, weaved in with spectacular visual effects, with a love story at its core has once again found a deep connect with the Indian audiences.

‘Avatar' has dominated the Indian Box Office with an opening week collections of Rs 40 crores in India. The film has released in 2D as well as 3D with the 3D collections amounting to 25 percent of the total figures. The no of 3D screens has seen an increase from 12 screens to over 50 screens registering a growth of over 300 percent.

The film is striking the right cords with the vernacular audiences too. The Hindi version is doing extremely well with most single screen theaters in North and Central India still going houseful, it has contributed 47 percent of the revenues as compared to 53 percent of the original version in India. The success of the Hindi version can also be attributed to the outstanding response to the Hindi 2D version playing in the B and C centers of India.

Not only has Avatar broken box office records of Hollywood films like of 2012, Titanic and Spiderman 3, but also ranks no. 7 amongst the big bollywood films in India surpassing the opening week collections of top Hindi films like ‘All The Best', ‘Kaminey', ‘Delhi 6' and ‘New York'. The film has in fact beaten the openings of recent high profile Hindi films like Rocket Singh and Paa as well.

Released on Dec 18 across India, ‘Avatar' earned a record Rs 1 crore through its paid previews across India; the highest for any Hollywood film in India. The film then created a record by grossing Rs. 6.7 crores on the opening day itself making it the biggest ever Friday opening for any Hollywood film in India.

It then became the highest grosser among Hollywood films in India in terms of weekend collections of Rs 22 crores and now soars at the Indian box office with opening week box office collections of Rs 40 crores overtaking most bollywood films as well.

Avatar has opened to a good response Worldwide, with a collection of Rs 1450 crores in the first 5 days of its release. In fact, India's opening is amongst the top ten weekend performances in the World, beating the likes of traditionally better performing countries like Taiwan, Singapore, New Zealand, Sweden, Holland and Hong Kong.

Avatar was first conceived by Cameron 14-years-ago, when the means to realize his vision did not yet exist. Starring Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana, the film is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.
