Grossing $761, 000 Sunday, the highest one-day gross ever for any Hindi-language film in North America, Shah Rukh Khan starrer "My Name Is Khan" is on a record-breaking spree at the box office.

Karan Johar directed film was initially expected to drop by 7 percent over Saturday to $682, 000. But it performed better than expected on Sunday grossing $761, 000 for a four percent increase.

The Fox Searchlight release's revised opening weekend figure for February 12-14 now stands at $1, 939, 000, still a new all-time record for a Hindi film beating the $1, 764, 131 of 2007's "Om Shanti Om."

Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, MNIK averaged a stellar $16, 158 from 120 theaters across the United States and Canada over three days. Theatres across the country have reported sold-out shows and have had to turn moviegoers away.

"My Name Is Khan" is estimated to gross $336, 000 on Monday, Presidents' Day, bringing the estimated four-day opening weekend figure to $2, 275, 000.

This makes the Karan Johar film the fastest Hindi film ever to break the $2, 000, 000 mark beating the previous record of 5 days set in December by "3 Idiots" which grossed $2, 149, 227 in its five-day opening over the Christmas holiday weekend.

MNIK also generated the highest per-theatre average of any film in North American release this weekend.
