After Mumbai, Hyderabad and Pune, director Atul Kumar's much-acclaimed play 'The Blue Mug' was finally staged
at GD Birla Sabhaghar in Kolkata Saturday night.
Presented by Ballantine's Leave An Impression, 'The Blue Mug' is a theatrical creation based on Oliver Sack's 'The
Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat'.
"There's no script...the play is about memory and memory loss. We are a sum total of our memories, or are we
what we forget!" said Atul at a press conference before the show.
The play features Konkona Sen Sharma, Rajat Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey, Sheeba Chadha and Munish
Bharadwaj.
"We are not given any particular character to play in 'The Blue Mug'...we are just playing ourselves, " said Vinay
Pathak.
For Konkona, it's the first time that she is doing a play as a professional.
"I used to do plays in college. But after shifting to Mumbai, didn't get a chance to try it out as a professional. Now it
feels great to be on the stage again...in front of a wider audience, " Konkona told.
Talking about her co-actors in the play, she said: "Rajat, Vinay, Sheeba and Munish are all playing themselves...
you will find them sharing their memories and memory lossed with the audience, while Ranvir and I play doctor and
patient...the psychological aspect is brought out in our characters."
The second staging of the show will be held on Sunday night.
'The Blue Mug' will next be staged in Chandigarh, followed by Delhi and Bangalore.
