The underworld has always been a fascinating subject for filmmakers and TV producers. It's no secret that
underworld once played an active part in Bollywood. The underworld Bollywood nexus trails back to the 60s when
noted dons Karim Lala, Haji Mastan and Varadarajan mingled with top superstars and even produced many
films.
Bohra Films are now all set to produce a show that highlights the underworld-Bollywood nexus.
Titled
Crime & Bollywood, this hour-long weekly show is said to have characters who are greatly inspired by the likes of
Karim Lala, Haji Mastan and the most wanted of all dons 'Dawood Ibrahim'. Actors Rituraj, Gavvie Chahal,
Vishwajeet Pradhan and Daya Shankar Pandey are all part of this crime series.
Says a source, "The characters and the stories in Crime & Bollywood are to some extent inspired by the lives of
past and present underworld dons.
Haji Mastan and Karim Lala were among the first dons of Mumbai. The
show will trace how these men spread their wings in Bollywood. Gavvie Chahal plays Chaudhary Ranjeeth Singh.
This character is inspired from Karim Lala. Rituraj plays Michael, whose tale is similar to that of don Larson.
Daya Shankar Pandey and Vishwajeet Pradhan also play pivotal characters. Later on, the show will also
have a character like Dawood Ibrahim."
An actor requesting anonymity, says, "It would to wrong to say that we're depicting tales of underworld dons but
these characters have shades of these men."
When asked whether these characters are inspired by real life dons, producer Sunil Bohra gave a metaphorical
reply, "Yeah, these are based on rumours". When pressed further, Bohra sighs, "Yes, the show does depict the
lives of these real life dons and their nexus with Bollywood."
