Nana Patekar, who has ruled Bollywood since his debut in 1978, with his signature acting style, is going to enter the Kannada film industry. Nana will be playing the role of an honest police officer Yograj Pulakeshi in his debut Kannada movie Yaksha.

Ramesh Bhagvat, the director of the film, has chosen Nana because of his Krantiveer image. Ramesh said, "Three years back, when I wrote the story, I had Nana on my mind. My producer also supported me and gave the freedom to approach Nana without worrying about the fees."

He added, "I could convince Nana about his role and the film after 4 to 5 sittings. He is like a messiah in the film, who conveys a message. If you have seen him play Lord Krishna in Rajneeti, in this film you will see him as the Parashuram of Kaliyug."

The veteran is donning the role of hero Yogish's father in Yaksha. Choreographer Imran has been able to make Nana shake a leg to a song, written by Yograj Bhatt. Yogish will also feature in the song, which has a message to the young generation.

This is the first time that Nana has dubbed for any South Indian film.

The film deals with the story of a youth who wants to be powerful and the obstructions he faces doing so. The director says that as per the 'Rig Veda', Yaksha means someone, who protects nature. In the same way, the film will be seen protecting the society.

Hiranaiah, the well-known theatre artist, will essay the role of Yogish's grandfather, who is young-at-heart. Atul Kulkarni will be seen as the villain, who has also dubbed for the first time for a Kannada film.

Ruby is the heroine of the film, who will be supported by the Tamil actress Sharanya and Kannada film's favourite cop Kishore. Komal will be seen as a comedian.

Anup Seelin has composed music for Yaksha. Kailash Kher and Ritisha of 'Star Voice of India' fame will lend their voice for the songs.

The film is scheduled to release in August.
