'Jinxed' Vidya Balan to accept offers from South film industry to please her parents

Vidya Balan, who till now had been avoiding offers from the Malayalam and Tamil film industry after being called a jinx, is now considering them to please her parents.

A source close to Vidya says, "Vidya's parents are Palakkad Iyers (or Tamil Brahmins settled in Kerala) and they have always urged her to act in Malayalam and Tamil films. And though she has always had offers from the south, she could never do them.

Her first Mallu film, Chakram didn't fare well at the box-office and while doing her first Tamil film, she was replaced by Trisha after five days of shooting because the Malayalam film industry labelled her a jinx. A hurt Vidya withdrew from the south completely."

Things have changed now with Santosh Sivan's Malayalam film Urumi, where she will do an item song.

"After attending an awards event in the south recently in a typical South Indian saree, Vidya has suddenly been getting more big-money offers from there including jewellery, saree and coffee endorsements.

Though Urumi is not a full-fledged role for Vidya, it's a gift to her parents (who want her to work in Kerala's film industry) and a step towards doing more films."

Fusion dance
In Urumi, Vidya will be seen in a sensuous dance number. It's a fusion of different classical and modern dance forms. Vidya will soon start learning these dance forms from an expert.

She is also having her choreographer flown down to Mumbai to rehearse before she shoots the song. It's just that Vidya hurt her shoulder while shooting for Who Killed Jessica? And now she's waiting for it to get better before she starts training."

After completing the shooting of Jessica, Vidya will travel to her favourite destination Kolkata next month for shooting Sujoy Ghosh's thriller Kahani. "It revolves around Vidya's character and she is thrilled to act in such a film."

Vidya says, "Yes, I have been offered Malayalam and Tamil films and endorsements. I am considering them as it has always been my parents' dream that I do at least one Malayalam film."
