Railway police Wednesday filed charges in a court here against six people accused in the death of British-born Pakistani film director Nadia Khan in an accident in May.

Police have accused film director Kaizad Gustad and his associates Ashish Udeshi and Hadley D'Mello of "culpable homicide not amounting to murder".

However, police and railway officials have had to face tougher charges.

Worli police station Sub-Inspector N. Advatkar, Mahalaxmi railway station Superintendent C.G. Ashokan and Government Railway Police Constable Darshana Vaity were charged with destroying evidence and shielding the offenders.

Khan, 27, was knocked down while shooting on railway tracks near the Mahalaxmi station May 25. She and others were shooting for Gustad's film "Mumbai Central".

Udeshi and D'Mello, who rushed Khan to hospital, told police that a car had hit her. Gustad, however, confessed the truth to Khan's relatives in Britain, who are pressing for a detailed probe in the matter.

Ashokan and Vaity, who were on duty when the accident occurred, are accused of not informing police about the accident.
