Delhi socialite who owns the restaurant where Jessica Lall was murdered, will be left out of the special screening held in Delhi

Socialite Bina Ramani will not be present at the special screening of No One Killed Jessica as she is barred from the January 4 showing of the film in Delhi.

The film's story is inspired by the murder of model Jessica Lall's murder in 1999 at Tamarind Court, owned by the Ramanis.

The film's two protagonists Vidya Balan (who plays Sabrina, Jessica's sister) and Rani Mukerji (who plays a spunky investigative journalist) are expected to be present at the screening.

Vidya is specially apprehensive and nervous about Lal's reaction to the screen-Sabrina.

Not invited

Director Rajkumar Gupta confirms that Ramani, who played a critical part in the Jessica Lall murder case, won't be invited for the special screening.

The Delhi socialite has apparently expressed her keenness to watch No One Killed Jessica, primarily to see how she has been portrayed in the film.

However, the film's team maintains there is no character called Bina Ramani in NOKJ.

The name of the character who is allegedly based on Ms Ramani has been changed to Mallika Sehgal and is played by Delhi's theatre personality and novelist Bubbles Sabharwal.

Buy a ticket!

Says an insider, "Let Ms Ramani buy a ticket and watch the film when it releases. She doesn't feature among the characters.

She is free to draw parallels between herself and Bubbles' character. But we aren't giving anything away."

Regarding the January 4 show Gupta says, "The screening is for Sabrina and her invitees. We aren't inviting anyone. It's up to Sabrina whom she wants at the screening."

The film will be premiered on Jan 5 in Mumbai to commemorate Jessica's birthday. However her sister is not invited for the premiere.

Explains a source, "It seems insensitive. We'd rather leave Sabrina and her family alone on that day."
