Tollywood heartthrob Prosenjit Chatterjee, son of yesteryear's matinee idol Biswajit, opens up about his estranged relations with his father

Biswajit Chatterjee, a Bengali actor who etched his name in the Hindi film industry with superhit films like Bees Saal Baad and Mere Sanam has never got along well with his son, Bengal's superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee.

In a tete-a-tete with the present-day Tollywood heatthrob, the estranged son talks about his relations with his father and the stage of no reproachement that they have reached.

Speaking on the troublesome topic, Posenjit says that it's too late for any reconciliation. "Thirty years have passed since he left my mother.

All of Bengal knows about my differences with him. He's based in Mumbai. He has a family there. I never visit him. He never visits me.

We are not enemies. But neither are we friends. At this stage in his life and mine, a reproachement seems out of the question."

The common link

Though, of all people, one link that connects the father-son duo is Mamta Bannerjee. Apparently, both are very close to the firebrand politician.

"He was in Kolkata a month back for Mamatadi's rally. We're very close to her.

She loves us a lot," he says.

So was another attempt made to bring the two together? "I don't think we can ever come together. We've tried. But it didn't work out.

Everyone knows how badly he treated my mother. She saw him through his days of struggle and then watched him become a star and leave us."

Apparently, Prosenjit is very close to Padma-Bhushan awardee Soumitra Chatterjee, a legendary Bengali actor known for his collaborations with Satyajit Ray. PC says that he is his real father that Biswajit could never be.

"It's Soumitrada and not Mr Chatterjee (Biswajeet) who attended my sister's wedding. He is like a father to us," he says. "My sister was only 13 when we got her married. I was 16 then," the actor adds.

Reaching out

He has tried to reach out to his father in the past. "He wanted to launch his daughter in a film and I agreed to make a guest appearance in it.

Beyond that, unless he needs my help how can I suddenly make my presence felt in his life after thirty years? I've had two failed marriages. But I don't bitch about it. Likewise my relationship with my father is part of my life."
