Pakistan confers awards on Meera

Pakistan has conferred civil awards on 185 people including Interior Minister Rehman Malik and actress Meera.

Meera, seen in Bollywood movies like "Nazar" and "Kasak", was awarded the Sitara-i-Imtiaz, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

A few foreign nationals were also awarded for excellence in their field of activity.

The awards were announced Sunday on the occasion of the country's 65th Independence Day. The ceremony will take place March 23, on Pakistan Day.

Malik, along with Senate Chairman Farooq Hamid Naek and National Assembly Speaker Fahmida Mirza, were awarded the Nishan-i-Imtiaz.

Presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar and Pakistani ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani were awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz.
