Twenty days after his death, veteran actor Shammi Kapoor's ashes were immersed in Jhelum river in Jammu and Kashmir,
said his son Aditya Raj Kapoor on Saturday.
"He (Shammi Kapoor) was in love with Kashmir. So we immersed his ashes in Jhelum, " said Aditya Raj in Srinagar.
"We also planted a sapling at Lalit Hotel where my father used to stay whenever he visited Kashmir, " he said.
According to reports, before the ritual, Kapoor's ashes were taken to Dal Lake in a shikara as he used to love the boat ride
there.
Kapoor's son Aditya Raj, daughter Kanchan, Adtiya's wife Preeti, his co-actors Asha Parekh, Vinod Khanna and filmmaker
Vidhu Vinod Chopra were present at the ritual.
Earlier on Aug 15, Kapoor's last rites were performed by Aditya Raj at Ban Ganga crematorium in Mumbai, where his first wife
Geeta Bali was cremated in 1965.
Shammi Kapoor succumbed to renal failure in Mumbai on Aug 14. He was 79.
Kapoor, who was suffering from chronic renal failure since the last 7-8 years, breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital
around 5. 15 am.
He was admitted to Breach Candy on Aug 7 after his condition was complicated by low blood pressure and an infection.
Kapoor was put on ventilator support on Aug 12 after his condition deteriorated.
Shammi Kapoor, born as Shamsher Raj Kapoor on 21 October 1931, was the romantic dancing hero during the late 1950s
and 1960s.

‘Rockstar' to be released later this year.
