Imtiaz Ali has always been a huge fan of Bhupen Hazarika. In fact, like many others, the director was absolutely shocked by the news of Hazarika passing away.

He said, "I was flying from Dubai and I just happened to hear his song "Dil hoom hoom kare" on the radio and was extremely moved.

I didn't know that he is no more. His voice was so soothing. It's the kind of simplicity that one achieves after going through highs and lows in life.

I had met him once with Kalpana Lajmi. Conversing with him was very interesting and a learning experience for me."
