On the occasion of Republic Day, a host of television stars went down memory lane, recalling flag-hoisting ceremonies and singing of the national anthem in their school days.

Rati Pandey, of Zee TV's "Hitler Didi" recalls: "National holidays like Republic Day only remind me of my school days and the patriotic fervour that gripped all of us as we celebrate it.

However, even now, every moment makes me feel proud to be an Indian. As a kid, I remember standing in the school assembly, singing the national anthem and seeing the flag being hoisted. I used to feel really proud watching the flag hoisting."

Shashank Vyas of "Balika Vadhu" said: "During my school days I used to participate in cultural programmes and attend flag-hoisting ceremonies, but at that time I didn't know the importance of this day. Since I have learnt the significance of R-Day, I will participate in the ceremonies more actively and work towards being a responsible citizen."

Aakansha Singh of "Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha" says she enjoys watching patriotic films on Republic Day.

"During my formative years in Jaipur (school and college), I used to celebrate Republic Day very religiously - attending flag-hoisting ceremonies, participating in singing the national anthem and other patriotic songs was a ritual of sorts. I thoroughly enjoy watching movies based on independence and patriotism."

Kinshuk Mahajan of "Afsar Bitiya", reveals he used to visit the capital's Janpath area to catch a glimpse of the colourful parade.

"I was born and brought up in Delhi, which means that you cannot help not noticing the preparations for the Republic Day parade. As a child I used to go and watch the preparations. Given a choice I would love to be a part of the Republic Day parade from Janpath. Given my hectic shoot schedules, I don't think I can make it this year but hopefully in the near future, " Kinshuk said.

Shoaib Ibrahim of Colors' show "Sasural Simar Ka" admits he used to take part in cultural activities during the Republic Day programme in school and college.

"I am a very patriotic person and have a lot of love for the country. When I was in school and college, I used to religiously participate in cultural activities and flag- hoisting ceremonies. This Republic day I will make it a point to take some time out and attend a flag-hoisting ceremony."

Actors like Samir Soni and Meghna Malik feel youth need to take charge and help the country for a better and brighter future.

"It's a very important day for all Indians but unfortunately it's losing its importance. The new generation should be aware of what pride does this day, hold in an Indian's life. I appeal to my audience to be a good citizen and be a super power in our own way, " said Soni.

Malik of "Na Aana Iss Des Laado", said: "Republic Day is more like a person having an independent thought and mind. If we need to make our nation a better place for the generations to come we need to think and see that our thoughts are converted into actions. That is the way forward to make a better India."
