Salman bags Rs 7 crore endorsement deal!

Salman bags Rs 7 crore endorsement deal!
Friday, February 24, 2012 13:01 IST
Salman Khan is now just one step below Aamir Khan who tops the list of the highest paid actors for advertisements. Katrina Kaif leads the pack among the ladies...

He is not just at the top of his game when it comes to films, but Salman Khan seems to have leapfrogged to becoming one of the highest paid stars in the endorsement space as well.

The Dabangg Khan who otherwise is known to do very few endorsements has now apparently bagged a 7-crore deal to become the face of a food supplement.

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh initially endorsed the brand and clearly Salman is being paid more than double of what Yuvi was.

Says a source, "There is no doubt that Salman has charged a bomb for this brand. They were very keen on bringing him on board. It was a lucrative deal."

Salman who otherwise charges between Rs 3-4 crore per endorsement deal (for a year) suddenly upped his rates for this one.

Adds the source, "His market value is bigger than any other star at this point. However a lot of family brands do not prefer Salman because of his past reputation. Salman too does not really invest too much time and energy into endorsements. However, a food supplement goes perfectly with his image and personality."

Aamir Khan however still remains the highest paid star as far as endorsements deals go.

A look into the rate card of other actors
Aamir Khan
Brands: Tata Sky, Titan, Samsung, Parle, Mahindra Motorcycles, Etisalat
Rs 8-10 crore
The actor who is known to be very choosy about the brands he endorses has maintained exclusivity. Which is probably why Aamir quotes the highest rate for ads.

Says Atul Kasbekar, CMD, Bling Entertainment, "Aamir isn't afraid to say no. He doesn't sign on a brand unless you tick mark all the prerequisites he follows with respect to an endorsement deal. From the creative to the money to the look to how the brand suits his personality, he looks into each aspect very closely. He chooses his brands exactly the way he does his films."

Shah Rukh Khan
Brands: Tag Hueur, Pepsodent, Nerolac Paints, Sona Chandi Chyavanprash, Belmonte, Dish TV, Airtel, Nokia, Hyundai Santro, Videocon, Tata Tea, ICICI Bank
Rate: Rs 5-6 crore
A face more universal than most others, Shah Rukh Khan has managed to maintain a balance between brands that cater to the youth to those that are meant for the family audience. He has the maximum number of brands in his kitty.

Ranbir Kapoor
Brands: Pepsi, Panasonic, Nissan Motors India, Nokia, Tata Docomo, John Players
Rate: Rs 3-5 crore
The emerging youth icon of the nation, Ranbir is a hot favourite amongst apparel and beverage brands.

Says Anirban Blah from Kwan, "Ranbir's accelerating a lot faster than most of his contemporaries because of his age and the kind of success he has seen. Today, he gets offered as many brands as may be an SRK does."

Amitabh Bachchan
Brands: Dairy Milk, Unicef, Dabur, D'damas, Reid and Taylor, Parker, Emami, ICICI prudential, Binani cement, Gujrat Tourism
Rate: Rs 3.5 to 4 crore
Despite his age, Amitabh Bachchan still gets approached for brands that are cut across demographics. He however has cut down on many brands off late.

Hrithik Roshan
Brands: J Hampstead, Rado Switzerland, Provogue, Liberty, Hide & Seek, Macro Man, Eyeball, Cinthol, Hero Honda
Rate: Rs 2-3 crore
Though his overall brand value has upped ever since Agneepath, Hrithik Roshan has for some reason chosen to keep his endorsements to the bare minimum. The rest including Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar charge anywhere between R 1 and 3 core.

The ladies who rule:
Katrina Kaif: Rs 4-4.5 crore
Priyanka Chopra: Rs 3-3.5 crore
Kareena Kapoor: Rs 2-3 crore
Deepika Padukone: Rs 1-2 crore
Madhuri Dixit: Rs 1-2 crore
Vidya Balan: Rs 1-1.5 crore
Anushka Sharma: Rs 80 lakh
