Children's Film Society of India's (CFSI) movie "Gattu" received two awards at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles.

Directed by Rajan Khosa, the children's film won the Audience Award and the Honorable Mention Award at the prestigious gala Sunday evening in Los Angeles.

The film is based in a small Indian town where kids and adults are obsessed with kite flying, and puts the spotlight on street children in the country.

The director is proud with the twin-win for the issue-oriented movie.

"It's a very proud moment for me and everyone who is associated with 'Gattu'," Khosa said in a press statement.

"Gattu, played by Samad Mohammad, whose trust and love I received, was a natural kite flyer. In almost every small town in India, you see street kids, selling trinkets, playing pranks and begging. You ignore them, or you dole out a coin or two, but you and I know, they are far too smart to be wasted like this.

"These awards are only a tiny step towards the massive task of empowering street children in India," he added.

Nandita Das, chairperson, CFSI, is also delighted about the appreciation for "Gattu".

"We are delighted with this double win, especially the Audience Award. That is really the true test of any film. An endearing story, when well told, will surely connect with everyone - whether you are six or 60," said Nandita.
