Not length, strength of role matters: Jackie Shroff

After working for over 30 years in filmdom and giving some of the greatest blockbusters like "Hero", "Ram Lakhan" and "Gardish", Jackie Shroff doesn't worry about length of a role anymore.

"It's not the length but the strength of the role that matters. Even if there are two scenes in a movie, if the scene has strength, I would do it, " Jackie told.

Jackie will seen as a journalist in Dutch director Laurens Postma's "Cover Story", being produced by Glorious Entertainment.

The actor says Postma is perhaps the first foreign director who has come all the way to India to direct a Hindi film and says that it marks "the beginning of a new trend of bringing international director to India".

"You have an international director coming and directing a Hindi film. All my contemporary actors are going out and working, " he added.

An official remake of Dutch film "The Interview", which was also directed by Postma, "Cover Story" will see Jackie as a journalist discovering the life of a glamorous actress, played by debutant Anjum Nayar.

He appreciates current filmmakers forthrightness in openly admitting their source of inspiration, which was not the case earlier.

"Everything is clear and on the table. I think it is always right to be upfront, " he said.

Postma made the role easier for Jackie by enacting every scene to him and the latter applauds his contribution, saying, "The way he (Postma) used to show me how to perform, he is a fabulous actor. With only two actors in the film, the whole feel about the film changes. It becomes one act play. It has never bee seen before."

Madhur Bhandarkar's forthcoming "Heroine" toes the similar theme and Jackie feels it is human nature to be curious about other person's life. "Heroine" is releasing Sep 21, while "Cover Story" will come out Oct 12.

"Everyone wants to know how actresses live. We were so curious to know what is happening in our neighbour's house. People are always curious about what is happening in the actresses' lives. It is quite natural, " he said.

The actor has recently signed "Dhoom 3" and "Aurangzeb" with the Yash Raj Films banner and says working with a good banner is important for him.

"If there is a good banner like Yash Raj, UTV, Sajid Nadiadwala, then I would do it (a movie), because you know the banner is going to take care of the success of the movie, " Jackie said.
