Veteran actress Sarika turned down a part in Bejoy Nambiar's David. But she happily agreed to do an item song in the film. The song, a remix of the old classic Sufi Qawwalli Damadam mast kalander has been shot in
black-and-white.
Nambiar who's delighted at this unexpected turn of events says he never thought the veteran actress would be interested.
`Not only was Sarikajee keen to do the song she even helped us with its
choreography, ` says the director happily.
Apparently there was no professional choreographer on the sets. That's when Sarika who loves to dance in real life, stepped in.
Says Bejoy, `My Assistant Director Elizabeth Perreira Pundit and I decided to choreograph the Qawwalli. And Sarikaji too decided to add her own inputs into it. The Qawwalli finally ended up looking smoking hot. `
To retain a 'classic' look Bejoy shot the Qawwalli in black-and-white. It therefore exudes the same old-world feeling as the great Qawwallis from the black-and-white era such as Na to karvan ki talaash hai in Barsaat Ki
Ek Raat and Nigahen milane ko jee chahta hai in Dil Hi To Hai.
