According to the actress, She got an email from the casting agent which said that She was the only actress from India who Ang Lee wanted to meet for Pi's mother's part. When she went and met him, he didn't say anything for over an hour.

Then a little bashfully, he said, `It's not the central character, are you still okay with doing it? ` Tabu was really touched by his honesty.

The actress saw the regard And Lee had for her and she agreed, Even though it's a small role but an interesting one. Life of Pi is my Tabu's of expressing her admiration for Ang Lee since his Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is her favorite film.
