Veteran singer Asha Bhosle, who has spent close to seven decades in the industry, says she received Rs.100 for her first song and spent it eating with her husband in Mumbai, which truly turned out to be a "city of dreams" for her.

"Always enjoyed watching a city wake up. Mumbai is a late riser but the energy in this city is commendable. I got paid Rs.100 for my first song. My husband and I celebrated with roadside batatavada. Mumbai is the city of dreams. Some dreams come true, " the 79-year-old tweeted.

Having sung numbers for many Bollywood movies, Bhosle's work includes film music, pop, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music and folk songs.

She made her playback debut in Hindi films with the song "Saawan aaya" for Hansraj Behl's movie "Chunariya" in 1948. She sang the first song of her career for Marathi film "Majha Bal" for Datta Dawajikar in 1943.

Recollecting some lost charms of Mumbai, she posted: "Today's youth may not know that there were trams in Mumbai. I used to commute in trains and trams before I could afford a car."

"In the 1950s, I used to live in Borivali. Used to catch early morning local and go to work. It was fun talking to commuters, " she further posted.
