With Barfi! beating Paan Singh Tomar in the initial Oscar race, Irrfan, who played the titular character in the film, was naturally disappointed

However, the actor states that he would not want to read too much into the whole scenario.

Sources say that with Irrfan's standing as an actor in the international markets, director Tigmanshu Dhulia had high hopes for his film to reach the annual Academy Awards.

Irrfan says, `May be it would have helped but jo hua nahi uske bare mein kya baat karu.`

The actor, who has been a part of Hollywood films like The Namesake and Life of Pi adds, `Yes, I am disappointed but I think the makers have sent the film as an independent entry.`
