Marathi actress Usha Jadhav talks about her National Award win for 'Dhag'

For Usha Jadhav, her recent National Award win for Best Actress is special. Especially because despite debuting in a Madhur Bhandarkar film back in 2007, she says she was only offered roles of housemaids thereafter.

The actress, admits that pushing her disappointment aside, she continued doing telly commercials. Usha has won the country's most prestigious film award, beating strong contender Vidya Balan. Usha says, `I did a couple of other projects but after that I started receiving several roles of housemaids.

But when I heard I had won the National Award, I was shocked. I have always wanted to be an actress. My parents live in Kolhapur and they have arrived in Mumbai.` Apparently, one of Usha's friends called her and informed her about the prestigious award.

Speaking about the film that essays her as a mother, Usha says the award has changed her life overnight. `A friend had suggested my name to Shivaji Patil, the director of the film.

After seeing my short films and ads, he finalised me. Overnight, everything has changed now. I am happy as every actor wants recognition. I have grown up watching Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit and they are my favourites. It's my privilege that I was being counted amongst actresses like Vidya Balan.`
