An alert was sounded across Punjab Sunday following the bomb blasts at two cinema halls in Delhi that were screening the controversial film "Jo Bole So Nihaal".

Senior police officers here said security had been tightened in all major cities across Punjab.

There were, however, no reports of any incidents in Punjab following the Delhi blasts. The film had been withdrawn from Punjab's cinema theatres Friday by its distributors.

Police were keeping tabs on people who had been opposing the film during the past two weeks.

The film was withdrawn from halls in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh following objections raised by Sikh community leaders and the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC).

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur condemned Sunday's blasts but said the makers of the film were responsible for such incidents as they did not listen to objections about the film from the Sikh community.

Kaur said the SGPC was not against the entire film but only to a few scenes that hurt the religious sentiments of Sikhs.

"This is a conspiracy to defame Sikhs. First their sentiments were hurt by the film and now Sikhs will be blamed for the blasts," she told a TV channel.
