Hundreds of people, many of them Congress party activists, Tuesday attended a prayer meeting held here in honour of actor-turned-politician Sunil Dutt, who died last Wednesday in Mumbai.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with a battery of party leaders and central ministers paid homage to the dead leader in the prayer meeting, which was organised by Dutt's family at his 2 Tughlak Road residence.

Dutt's actor son Sanjay Dutt, daughters Namrata and Priya and other family members were present at the meeting, in which musician Vidya Shah performed bhajans.

Manmohan Singh was accompanied by his wife Gursharan Kaur while Sonia came to the meeting with her son Rahul.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechuri joined senior Congress leaders to mourn the death of the former sports minister who died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 75.

Senior Congress leaders Ahamed Patel, Ambika Soni, Ashok Gehlot, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Babulal Gaur and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Sahib Singh Verma also joined the prayer meeting.
