Television personality Rajeshwari Sachdev has been receiving calls from underworld demanding Rs 40 lakhs
from the actor as 'protection money,' police sources said today.
The actor, who has been receiving extortion calls for the past few months, decided to move the police last
week and lodged a complaint at Versova police station in northwest Mumbai on June 14, the sources said.
The complaint, lodged by her father Indrajeet Sachdev, states about the threats his daughter has been
receiving for the past few months from an unknown caller. The complaint does not (not) name any particular
person or a gang as responsible for the threat calls, police sources said.
DCP zone VI, Amitabh Gupta said Sachdev had lodged a complaint at Versova police station about the
threats she received. "The matter is pending investigation," he said.
When contacted Rajeshwari said: "I have received the threats and as a responsible citizen I thought it was my
duty to inform the police about the same. I have done it by lodging a complaint."
"I have no clue as to who is behind the call", she told the when asked whether she suspected any
professional or personal rivalry behind the phone calls.
On whether she had sought police protection, she said: "let us wait and see, I have taken the first step of
informing the police; I have done my duty, I leave the rest to the police."
