Bombay Velvet inspired by Mumbai Fables by Gyan Parkash.
Director Anurag Kashyap

More and more Bollywood movies are these days being based on literary works of well-known writers. Anurag Kashyaps upcoming venture Bombay Velvet takes inspiration from historian Gyan Parkash's Mumbai Fables. It stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anushja Sharma, Raveena Tandon and Karan Johar. It is set in the 60's depicting Mumbai's transformation into a big city.

Vikas Bahl, the co-producer of the movie explains that it is very challenging making such films. `It is tougher to pick up a piece of literature as people have different perception of of the same book. For a director it is important to put his imagination on the screen.` Writer S. Hussain, whose book Dongri To Dubai inspired Shootout At Wadala, says that Bollywood is always starved of content. It is a welcome sign if they are now picking up literary works for basing their movies on. In Hollywood it is a common practice.
