I think I have to shut up: Sajid Khan

Eight months after its release, Sajid Khan finally eats the humble pie on the debacle of 'Himmatwala'

Soon after his much-touted 'Himmatwala' released and sank at the box office without a trace, director Sajid Khan went off the radar for a while. However almost eight months after its release, Sajid comes clean, admitting he had started counting his chickens before the eggs had hatched.

Also, adding that he doesn't take himself too seriously, the director accepts that the film's poor performance came as a surprise to Ajay Devgn as well, who starred in the film. Says Sajid, `Nobody wants to own a flop film.

We were depressed but we have moved on. I think I have to shut up. I am a fast learner. I don't take myself seriously but I do take my work seriously. Though Himmatwala is a dear film to me, it did not go down well with the audiences of today.`

Much to the chagrin of critics and cinephiles, Sajid waxed eloquence about how his film, the remake of Sridevi's 1983 blockbuster Himmatwala, would rake in big moolah, a thumping Rs 150 crore. But today, Sajid regrets his words, `Sometimes, I shoot off my mouth. Today when I see myself on TV in the past and hear what I had to say then, I want to tell myself to shut up. Sometimes, I just get carried away.`

Soon after Himmatwala released early this year, there were rumours about how Devgn had washed his hands off the film's failure. But Sajid feels, as the captain of his ship, it is he who should be blamed. `It is easy to point fingers at each other once the film has flopped.

It was entirely my fault and I hope I never do it again. Nobody likes to be associated with a flop film, especially when you have been churning out hits, ` says Sajid, who is one of the judges on the upcoming season of the dance reality show Nach Baliye.
