The police on Sunday recorded voice samples of Bollywood star Salman Khan and questioned him in connection with the telephonic conversation he purportedly had with actress Aishwarya Rai, in which the actor flaunted his links with the underworld.

The actor was questioned at the Andheri crime branch unit between 1 pm to 4 pm and police had taken his voice sample, Salman's lawyer Dipesh Mehta said.

Mehta further said the actor was fully cooperating with the police.

Describing the conversation as ‘false and fabricated,' Mehta had earlier said, "this is an attempt by media to sensationalise the issue and the voice in the cassette is certainly not of Salman Khan."

"It cannot be true because if the police had the cassette four years ago, they would have taken action against Salman then," he said.

The conversation which was recorded in 2001 was earlier published by a local newspaper on July 14. In the conversation, Khan has threatened Rai to perform in an entertainment programme organised by fugitive gangster Abu Salem, warning her of what harm the underworld figures could cause if their wish was not conceded.

Although Rai warns Khan that he is drunk and his phone was likely being tapped, the actor, who at that time was reportedly having an affair with Rai, a former Miss Universe, in his conversation continues to flaunt his connection with underworld figures Salem, Chota Shakeel, Dawood Ibrahim and Guru Satam.
