With this year's Tamil super hit "Chandramukhi" reportedly grossing over Rs.700 million, some top Bollywood filmmakers are reportedly trying to acquire the film's rights for a
Hindi remake.
The film, directed by P. Vasu and starring Tamil superstar Rajnikant, Jyothika and Prabhu, is a remake of Malayalam film "Manichitratazhu".
The 1993 film, directed by Fazil's and starring Mohan Lal, Shobhna and Suresh Puri under the banner of "Swarg Chitra", pocketed three National Awards - best film, best
actor and best actress. The film did good business at the box-office.
In 2004, the subject was taken up by Kannada filmmakers and made into "Aaptha Mitra".
Starring Vishnu Vardhan and Saundarya, the movie bagged the best actor and best actress Filmfare Award 2003. The film did a business of over Rs.400 million.
The magical figure was grossed despite a major accident. The film's leading lady died in a plane crash the day after the film's release. It is running to packed houses even
today.
Hindi film directors are planning to acquire the film's rights from Appachhan, a veteran filmmaker of south India.
