Filmmaker Prakash Jha is ready with his new film "Apharan", which is the story of a kidnapping, but says it is not specifically about the abduction racket in Bihar.

"'Apharan' is the story of abduction, a social evil prevalent everywhere, not just Bihar. It will be released in November," said Jha who was visiting the state capital.

In the lead roles are Ajay Devgan, Nana Patekar and Bipasha Basu, who worked hard to give a real-life look to the characters they play.

"Apharan" will focus on how kidnapping has become a lucrative business for criminal gangs. It will also dwell on the involvement of police, politicians, criminals and middlemen behind in the increasing number of abductions.

"Like my earlier films, 'Apharan' also deals with hard socio-political realities in society, which have become a part of life. It simply portrays how abductions take place and the people behind it."

"I admit that the topic of the film struck me in Bettiah. But later on such incidents have become common even in Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata and other places across India," said Jha.

"The abduction business is rampant not only in Bihar but everywhere. So my film 'Apharan' is certainly not a film on Bihar-centric abductions," Jha said.

Jha, a Bihari, is known for making films on the social ills of this state. His films have been appreciated for reflecting social exploitation and the intermingling of crime and politics in Bihar. These include "Damul", "Mrityudand" and "Gangaajal".

Jha said unlike "GangaaJal", "this film may have a resemblance with abduction cases and real characters but it does not deal with a historical abduction".

Jha is already working on his next film "Rajniti", which again focuses on politics.
