Unexpected 'Tamasha': Screening of 'Dekh Tamasha Dekh' cancelled

Filmmaker Feroz Khan had to cancel the special screening of his film 'Dekh Tamasha Dekh' that was being held at Eros mini theatre on Wednesday afternoon after a group of about 30 persons stood outside the theatre and protested against the film.

A official from Eros when contacted said,`They came and asked us if there was a public screening of the film. We told them we were screening '2 States'. But they threatened us saying if 'Dekh Tamasha Dekh' is screened they would come back to the cinema with 300 people and there would be problem.` The official at the Eros box office added, `The manager called the police after which these people went away.`

After the group went away Feroz Khan got a call from Eros asking if he wants to still go ahead with the screening. Feroz said, `I really didn't want any problem. So I asked them to cancel the screening. But it is rather strange how they found out about a private screening. They apparently also told the cinema hall people they will not allow the film to be shown on television also.`

The filmmaker cancelled the show but said, `This is rather surprising that film has been cleared by censor board released in cinema halls. Why do they want a ban now? This is ridiculous.`

The police confirmed. Senior PI Pravin Chinchalkar of Marine Drive police station said, "There was an incident where people entered the theatre to stop the movie. We were informed and our team is at the theatre."

'Dekh Tamasha Dekh' is about a fight between Hindus and Muslims over the last rites of a dead body. Instigated by politicians and religious leaders the town faces riots. The hate speech by the maulvi and the Hindu leader is very strong inspite of being cut by the censors.
