Producer Gaurang Doshi may be out of the news right now. But he has plans to get back to
business. Two months after John's actual birthday, Gaurang wants to say Happy Birthday to John.
Yup, that's the title of Gaurang's new film that goes on the floors in February.
Revealing details of the hush-hush project, Gaurang says, "It will be a very big film, but a
genre-breaking one.... Just like my Aankhen, which was one-of-a-kind when it came, there has been
nothing like Happy Birthday in Hindi cinema before. I don't know how to define it. It's a story that will
please audiences from the age of six to 60.
Sriram Raghavan's brother Sridhar wrote Deewaar for me. I've been impressed by Sriram's direction in
Ek Hasina Thi. I wanted to work with him since then."
Gaurang who has earlier worked with Akshay Kumar in Aankhen and Sanjay Dutt in Deewaar, is
revved-up about his new leading man.
"John is perfect for the lead role. And I consider Amitji
my good-luck charm. He was there in both my earlier production. We've a very special cameo for him
in Happy Birthday, which only he can do. I've been waiting for him to get well before I talk to
him."
Sriram Raghavan who has just completed a comic gangster film, Johnny Gaddaar with debutant Neil
Mathur in the lead, is gearing up for the Gaurang experience. "Happy Birthday is a romantic
adventure. John has been pencilled in. And we're looking at two leading ladies. After two thrillers Ek
Haseena Thi and Johnny Gaddaar, I want to try out a totally new genre in Happy Birthday. It could be
my first ‘U' certificate film, ha ha," he guffawed.
With Farah Khan making Happy New Year, and Sriram Raghavan gearing up for Happy Birthday, it
looks like happy times for Bollywood.
